Google Cardboard è una piattaforma di realtà virtuale, sviluppata dal Google Cultural Institute di Parigi. Il lato hardware di Google Cardboard utilizza visori a basso costo: il progetto è realizzato in cartone pieghevole (da cui deriva il nome), obiettivi in plastica da 45 mm e un magnete o una leva con nastro capacitivo per il controllo dello schermo. Dopo aver piegato tutti gli elementi nella configurazione corretta, si infila il telefono sul lato anteriore del visore avviando un’App progettata per funzionare con Cardboard. Il visore svolge due funzioni: tenere fermo il telefono di fronte agli obiettivi e fornire un modo per interagire con lo schermo. Google Cardboard non ha un costo eccessivo: è possibile utilizzare il proprio telefono e costruire un visore con pochi euro.

Google Cardboard is a complete virtual reality platform. It was developed at the Google Cultural Institute in Paris. The hardware side of Google Cardboard uses low-cost viewers, with the reference design made of foldable cardboard (hence the name) 45mm plastic lenses, and a magnet or capacitive-taped lever to operate the screen. Once you get everything folded into the right configuration you slip your phone into the front of the viewer and run an app designed to work with Cardboard. The viewer only needs to do two things: hold the phone in front of the lenses and provide a way to interact with the screen. Google Cardboard is inexpensive: you can use your existing phone and build a viewer with few dollars.
